You’re here right now because you want to know how to start a blog TODAY. You are full of ideas and itching to get started!
When I started my first blog I got so overwhelmed with the technical side of things and paid someone to set it up for me. I realize now how crazy that is because it is so easy now that I know what I’m doing.
There is no reason to get frustrated because I’m going to walk you through is super slowly and you’ll have your new blog up and running within a few minutes.
To start your blog, I’m going to walk you through the process of getting started with a company called BlueHost. Unfortunately, blogging isn’t free, especially if you want to grow a blog that will earn you a profit. BlueHost is the the cheapest hosting option at $3.95 a month, you’ll get a free domain (which is your web address) and they will refund you your money completely if you change your mind. So no worries.
Let’s get started!
Step One – Give Your Blog A Name
Take some time to think about what you want your blog to be called. You want it to be something fun that let’s people know exactly what they’re getting when they come to your site. You’ll enter that in just a minute
Step Two – Give Your Blog A Home
Go to BlueHost.com and click the green button that says, “get started now.”
Then you will be given three plan options. The cheapest option is what we talked about earlier at $3.95 a month. Click “select” and you’ll be taken to the next page to name your blog!
Type in your selection and if it’s already taken, don’t sweat. That has happened to me many times and every time I have to go back to the drawing board I come up with something I like even better!
Once your domain is set, you’ll put in your payment information. You’ll be offered several other services that you don’t need, so uncheck the boxes of extra stuff.
Step Three – Finalize
Log into your new BlueHost account. Holy cow, you’re almost all done!
Click on “C Panel” in the menu.
Click on “One-Click Installs.”
Then, you’ll be taken to a page that says “Blogs and Website Builders” and you’ll choose WordPress. Follow along the rest of the steps to get everything put in place.
Now, here’s the really fun part!
You get to pick a theme. BlueHost is the guts of your blog, but your theme is the body. It is what you see; the pretty stuff.
Once you log into your brand new blog, click “Appearance” in the left sidebar and then click on “Themes.”
There are free ones there to choose from there or you can grab some really amazing themes for $50-$75. That price is hundreds (sometimes thousands) of dollars less than hiring a site designer. My two favorites are Restored 316 and BluChic. Not only are they absolutely beautiful but they give you a ton of tips for making it look perfect.
You’re ready to hit publish on your first blog post!
See? I told you it was easy. Congratulations, you’re a blogger!
